SynopsisWith Barcelona as a platform, this documentary explores the life and creation of four young artists from different parts of the world: A Japanese painter, an Argentinean singer, a Colombian sculptor and a Guinean Bissau musician. Han a, the Japanese painter, has been away from her homeland for the past 7 years. Her drawings of animals and plants reflect people and their profound feelings. Her philosophy on the passing of time is reflected throughout her paintings in the form of sunflowers. The inclusion of the Nightmare Eater (a legendary animal in the Japanese tradition that feeds on nightmares) in her paintings conveys the idea of transformation from evil to good, converting nightmares into sweet dreams. On the other hand, Bélen confronts her day to day as an illegal-immigrant in Spain. Belén seeks refuge in the Tango and in Argentinean folklore. Music takes her back home and keeps her memories alive in a country so strange to her. Through her singing she re-vitalizes her soul and finds comfort in Barcelona. Through his sculptures Fernando reflects his relationship with his native Colombia, the relationship of sculpture and man, and the relationship of man with himself. His works of art thus becomes the reflection of his dreams and hopes - he submits himself to a test that will lead to the recognition of his most profound desire: to become a sculptor. To travel the world, confront racism and rejection, learn languages, meet new friends and sing, all constitute for Oli the necessary steps to find his own identity to form part of humanity. Music is his base, his way and objective in life and he expresses this through languages, instruments and human voice. These four artists lead parallel lives with all the consequences of a fulfilled artist’s life without luxury, constantly challenged, lonely and melancholic in a foreign country. These experiences and feelings form their artistic expressions. Listening to their most profound inner selves will lead each of them to walk their own path towards self-realization. |
